FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- The Point Insurance product provides Accident cover only and 24 hour cover. This covers player for non-football related injury and provides World Wide cover (with a few exclusions e.g. Base Jumping, Sky Diving)
- The policy does not require proof of income or medicals – all you need to do is supply your name, age and occupation
- The waiting period is 14 days (excess)
- The policy can be issued up to $1,000 Agreed Value (AV)
- What is Agreed Value?
As an example – you have a $1,000 Agreed Value weekly benefit policy and in the instance of an injury, you will receive $1,000 per week once you exceed the waiting period/excess (14 days)
- How does policy work for someone earning less than $1000 per week e.g. Student working part-time?
With reference to the Agreed Value policy, if a player has paid for a $1,000 AV policy, they will receive that payment regardless of employment status
- How does the policy work with players who receive match payments?
The policy covers players receiving minimum match payments like $300-$500
- How does a policy work for an employee who has sick leave at their place of work?
As an example, I have 4 weeks accumulated sick leave left, I injure myself playing Rugby League and can’t work for 6 weeks. Presumably, I take my 4 weeks accrued leave and get paid. Does the policy then kick in for the extra 2 weeks OR does the policy kick in after the 14 day excess period? If a player is an employee, has full time employment benefits (FTEB) and incurs an injury we don’t offset our payments in accordance with their FTEB’s. So again, if they are on a 14 day wait and have paid for a $1,000 AV weekly benefit, they will receive payments once they exceed their waiting period. Then, they can use their sick leave at their own discretion
- Is concussion covered? In the event a doctor diagnoses concussion and recommends a period of absence from work, is there any exclusion?
Confirm concussion is covered, however if a player has recurring concussion ailments and has a history of concussion this may be classified as a pre-existing medical condition. If a player doesn’t have a history of concussion and misses work due to a concussion incident, this would be covered
- How does the cover work with the existing NSW Rugby League cover? Does the cover in NRL policy effect this policy?
The NSW Rugby League cover provides a small benefit i.e. $250 per week in the event of injury at training or playing. In the instance an injury is sustained whilst playing or training and they have taken out a policy with Point (i.e. a $1,000 AV weekly benefit) we will offset the $250 and pay the difference (i.e. $750 per week). In the event they get injured outside of playing or training and the NSW RL policy doesn’t respond, our policy will provide coverage to the full $1,000 weekly benefit
- In this example, how would policy respond for a football injury – the club has a 28 day excess (base cover) with NRL and they have a Point Policy as well which has a 14 day excess?
Our policy pays the first 2 weeks after the waiting period – days 15 to 28 in full. From day 29, the payment will be offset against the NRL cover
- Examples of 24 Hour Accident cover
- I cut my hand at work and cannot work or play football for 6 weeks – am I covered? YES
- I break my leg riding my motor bike (recreational use) – am I covered? YES
- The policy is a full 24/7, 365 days cover and will respond to injuries that prevent players from working, whether they are injured on the field or not. Nb – If an employee is eligible for Workers Compensation benefits, we will offset this against the claim.
